Good morning friends!! Today’s post will be flower inspo to celebrate the magic of mother nature doing her work! Noticing the little pops of pink from all of the cherry and plum blossom trees blooming at this time of year always perks me up and reminds me that the grey days make colours feel that much more vibrant when we’re lucky to witness them🌸!
Have you heard of “floriography”? It’s how people communicated through flowers during the Victorian era to be discreet during a time of strict social etiquette! For example, a red rose meant "love," while a yellow one symbolized "friendship"!
Some flowers can also “talk” to each other! For example, when one flower is “attacked”, it alerts its neighbours to activate their own defence mechanisms by releasing chemical signals!
Flowers have their own preferences for certain pollinators; some specifically want butterflies or bats or hummingbirds or flies or bees!
Not only do flowers attract pollinators, they reward them! Their nectar acts like currency, and some flowers adjust the amount based on the pollinator’s visit- lol!
Some flowers even “dance” for pollinators by showing off their pollen, or mimicking the appearance and scent of a female bee to trick the male bees into mating with them!
Some flowers are capable of changing their sex from female to male or vice versa during their lifecycle depending on environmental conditions!
Some prefer to live separate from the common field flower, and specifically live in the water (like the water lilies or lotus flowers) or at bloom night! Some water flowers live underwater and only bloom when the water conditions are just right, or have evolved to perform their pollination above the surface too! As for night blooming flowers, they have evolved to attract nocturnal pollinators, such as moths, so they become more fragrant and larger in the dark hours!
And that’s 7! Have a lucky start to your week everyone✨!!
